Iranian authorities have imprisoned a British-Iranian woman in solitary confinement for over 200 days, extending her sentence by 8 months and then to 3 years. The reason cited for her imprisonment was a meeting with the former Empress of Iran, Farah Diba, widow of the late Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, and mother of his heir, as well as her participation in protests in London against the death of Iranian "Mahsa Amini" while in custody of the morality police in Tehran.
Arash Asiabi, husband of Nasrin Roushan, who has lived in Britain for 25 years and obtained citizenship, stated that his wife, born 60 years ago and mother of two sons, returned to Tehran last November to visit her ill aunt. However, airport authorities detained her when she attempted to leave for London with her cousin, 21-year-old Sara Tabrizi. Since then, she has been held in solitary confinement in the notorious Evin prison, managed by the Revolutionary Guard.
Meanwhile, her cousin was released on a bail of two billion tomans but died under mysterious circumstances a few days later, according to reports from the British newspaper (The Telegraph). Her husband noted that Nasrin had always wanted to express her respect for the former imperial family of Iran, which is why she traveled to Cairo in 2023, the place where the Shah died of lymphoma cancer in 1980. She attended the commemoration of his death and met with his 85-year-old widow. "Upon her return to Iran to visit her aunt, she was arrested," he said.
Iranian authorities then informed her family in Britain and relatives in Iran that she would be released after 8 months, specifically in June. However, the family has recently been notified that the authorities changed their mind and decided that Nasrin must serve a full 3 years in prison.
