Abbas Ibrahim: I Discussed the Tent Issue with Shia and Suggested a Solution to Reduce Tensions in the South

The former director general of the General Security, Major General Abbas Ibrahim, revealed that "the US Ambassador Dorothy Shia visited him a few days ago, and the discussion touched on the situation in the South and the tent issue in the town of Ghajar." He stated, "The ambassador listened to my ideas and suggestions regarding this matter, which is under the authority of the local authorities and Ambassador Shia. This suggestion may be the solution that will lead to reducing tensions in the South and resolving this dilemma." In a media interview, he pointed out that "Lebanon is dependent on the stability of the regional and international situation, and currently, this stability is not predictable or clear concerning the balance of power, and the internal will is later shaped according to equations that have yet to be established. According to my analysis, the greater role today is for the Iranian-American dialogue and the Saudi-Iranian agreement, and the presidential vacancy may extend for months, but what is most important is internal dialogue because without it we cannot achieve anything. We must be prepared to engage with external factors." Regarding the crisis of the Governor of the Central Bank and the security situation, he said, "When any dispute arises in the country, we must resort to the law. Within the provisions of the Monetary and Credit Law, there are clear legal texts stating that the person performing the governor's duties in the absence of a governor is the first deputy of the bank, and there are public services that must continue." On his meetings with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah, Ibrahim noted that "the visit to President Assad was a culmination of my service as head of General Security for 13 years, as the beginning of my work coincided with the start of the Syrian crisis. We did not address the Lebanese political reality in this meeting or in other meetings. About two months ago, I met Nasrallah over dinner, and we reviewed the past phase and the files that have been completed and those that could be addressed later."
