Yevkurov to "Haftar": Russia Commits to Enhancing the Capabilities of the Libyan Army

Russian Deputy Minister of Defense Yunus-Bek Yevkurov confirmed Moscow's commitment to supporting Libya in enhancing the capabilities of its armed forces, stating that "this support includes areas of training and capacity building." This came during discussions between Yunus-Bek Yevkurov and Commander of the "General Command" Forces, Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, who received him at the "General Command" headquarters in Benghazi on Saturday evening. The Russian channel "RT" reported that the officials addressed the need for joint cooperation between the two countries to "combat terrorism, extremism, and the security threats facing the region," and emphasized the importance of "exchange of experiences and information to enhance security and stability in Libya." The meeting also included an exchange of views on regional and international issues of mutual interest, with both parties expressing "their desire to enhance bilateral cooperation in the interest of the two countries and their friendly peoples." After stressing the need for cooperation between the two countries "to combat terrorism and extremism," Field Marshal Haftar welcomed the visiting delegation, affirming "the friendly relations that bind Libya and Russia, and the importance of developing these relations in various fields, especially military and economic," while noting "the historical relations connecting the two countries and expressing appreciation for Russia's ongoing support."
