The latest issue of the Algerian official journal has announced significant decisions regarding amendments to the Penal Code, imposing life imprisonment for those who leak confidential information or documents related to national security or defense. Algerian media reported that the "new Penal Code stipulates life imprisonment and a sentence of 30 years for perpetrators of national treason crimes consisting of leaking confidential information or documents related to national security, defense, or the national economy via social media for the benefit of a foreign state or its agents."
According to the latest issue of the Algerian official journal, No. 30, "anyone who leaks confidential information or documents concerning national security, defense, or the national economy through social media for the benefit of a foreign state or one of its agents is considered to have committed an act of treason."
The new Penal Code imposes "life imprisonment for anyone who leaks confidential information or documents related to national security, defense, or the national economy via social media for the benefit of a foreign state or its agents." It also imposes a prison sentence ranging from 1 to 30 years for anyone who leaks such information or documents with the intent to harm the interests of the state or the stability of its institutions. Additionally, those who contribute during peacetime to a project aimed at undermining the morale of the army or security forces to harm national defense or security face a penalty of 5 to 10 years of imprisonment and a fine of 500,000 to 1 million DZD.
Any act targeting the state's security, national unity, and the stability and normal operation of its institutions is considered an "act of terrorism or sabotage." The Penal Code also imposes a sentence of 1 to 3 years for anyone who funds or supplies individuals and entities listed as terrorists.
