Egypt's Fatwa Authority Warns Against New Marriage Phenomenon (Video)

Sheikh Amr Al-Wardani, the Secretary of Fatwa at the Egyptian Fatwa House, has warned about the rapid spread of the phenomenon of "hotel marriage" in societies. Al-Wardani stated during an episode of the program "With the People," aired on the "People" channel, that this type of marriage signifies despair in understanding compassionate relationships and doubts regarding them.

He added, "Society is based on compassionate relationships, and hotel marriage is a result of despair in these relations, where one party fails to find a nurturing partner, and it only becomes a service marriage." He emphasized that the criterion for hotel marriage is profit and comfort, saying, "It means that whoever offers services spends or pays, and if those services stop, one changes the hotel. The standard in this marriage is material; if one has money, or she has money to spend, that’s the nature of this marriage. If this is the reason for marriage, then it’s better to avoid it because it loses its meaning, as it wastes the blessing that is built on affection and generosity."
