Occupation of Ghajar: Foreign Ministry Takes Action and Holds Meetings with Several Ambassadors

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants instructed Lebanon's permanent mission to the United Nations in New York to "file a complaint with the United Nations Secretary-General and the UN Security Council regarding the Israeli side's cementation of its complete occupation, and the continuation of the annexation of the northern Lebanese part of the village of Ghajar extending into the outskirts of the town of Mari, which constitutes a flagrant and serious violation, in addition to the daily and ongoing Israeli violations of Lebanese sovereignty and Resolution 1701." The ministry requested "a condemnation of this deliberate violation of Lebanese sovereignty, and the immediate and unconditional withdrawal from all occupied Lebanese territories."

Acting Foreign Minister Abdullah Bou Habib discussed recent developments in the south and Israeli violations of Resolution 1701 with the ambassadors of China, Jian Mingjian, and Japan, Magoshi Masayuki. They addressed the upcoming renewal of the international peacekeeping forces in southern Lebanon (UNIFIL), which will be issued by the Security Council in New York at the end of August. It was communicated to them that "Lebanon will submit a complaint to the UN Security Council to eliminate this violation and for Israel to withdraw from this occupied area in accordance with Resolution 1701," requesting assistance in addressing this violation which adds to the numerous and ongoing daily breaches threatening stability and calm in southern Lebanon and the region.

The issue of the two tents set up in the Shebaa Farms was also discussed, and Minister Bou Habib emphasized "the importance of completing the land border demarcation process and exploring how to address the remaining disputed points within the framework of the tripartite meetings, which would enhance calm and stability in southern Lebanon, in line with relevant United Nations resolutions." Bou Habib also welcomed the Spanish ambassador to Lebanon, Jesus Santos, and was informed of the cultural activities of the embassy in Lebanon, as well as the atmosphere of Spain's action plan during its presidency of the European Union and the priorities it will focus on.
