A significant surprise has been revealed by former Egyptian international player Ahmed Hassan Mido regarding the Muslim Brotherhood and Mohamed Salah. Mido confirmed that the Brotherhood attempted to recruit and attract Mohamed Salah through another retired international player affiliated with the group, but the Egyptian state intervened and saved him.
In an interview on the Egyptian satellite channel "Al-Nahar" last Thursday evening, he stated that Salah was indeed about to join the group after a considerable amount of brainwashing conducted by the retired international player, who was tasked by the Brotherhood to convince the Liverpool professional player to join the group. However, he added that the Egyptian state became aware of the situation and its details and intervened in a timely manner, successfully keeping Salah away from the Brotherhood.
Mido also revealed that the former international player who was mediating the recruitment attempt tried to enlist another player from Al-Ahly Club and several younger players to join the Brotherhood's ranks. He further noted that the group attempted to make many temptations for Salah and also identified seven individuals within Al-Ahly Club, including players, coaches, and board members, to recruit young players and serve the Brotherhood’s objectives, successfully managing to involve some players.
He concluded by stating that Salah is a patriotic player currently doing great work and support for the Egyptian state, with many undisclosed roles in serving his country at all levels. He pointed out that this is why he faces organized campaigns on social media, mostly from the Brotherhood's electronic committees.
It is worth mentioning that in 2015, following the ousting of the Brotherhood's rule, lawyer Samir Sabry filed a report with the Public Prosecutor, stating that a sports broadcaster announced a list of names of Al-Ahly players and members associated with the group after several Al-Ahly players raised the "Rabaa" sign. The report indicated that one retired player declared on several channels that there were a significant number within the club affiliated with the group, while a few sympathized with the Brotherhood, naming members of the club, including a youth coach and the brother of Safwat Hegazy, a Brotherhood leader imprisoned for multiple cases, along with several other players and administrators actually affiliated with the Brotherhood.
The report also called for an investigation into these individuals and the confiscation of their liquid, real estate, and movable assets, and their referral to trial. Meanwhile, the Egyptian Court of Cassation recommended listing former Al-Ahly and national team player Mohamed Aboutrika on the terrorism lists for five years. The Court of Cassation ruled to include Aboutrika on the terrorism lists definitively, with no room for appeal. According to the ruling, penalties were imposed on the player, including freezing his funds and properties, losing the requirement of good reputation necessary to hold public and parliamentary positions, and being placed on travel bans and alerts.
Additionally, security investigations revealed that the player indeed owned three companies, including a tourism company organizing trips to Turkey and facilitating travel for Brotherhood members there. Information also indicated that a significant portion of Aboutrika's company funds was allocated to support imprisoned Brotherhood members and their families and to finance some essential operations during the Rabaa al-Adawiya sit-in, with monthly amounts designated for certain members of the specialized committees. According to the assessment, the value of these funds amounted to approximately 23 million Egyptian pounds.
