Football fans are eagerly awaiting the kickoff of the 17th edition of the UEFA European Championship "Euro 2024" this evening, which takes place in Germany until July 14. Prior to the opening match between host nation Germany and Scotland in the group stage, there will be a special opening ceremony featuring international artists and honoring one of the most decorated football players in history.
According to the Spanish newspaper "AS," the ceremony will start an hour before the opening match, with German artist Leony performing the official anthem for the tournament, "Naar," in collaboration with the Italian group Meduza.
The opening ceremony will also pay tribute to German legend Franz Beckenbauer, who passed away earlier this year and is considered one of the most significant figures in football history.
Former German national team captains Bernd Ditterz and Jürgen Klinsmann, along with Beckenbauer's wife, are expected to present the championship trophy before the kickoff, symbolizing the unity of all generations of German football that have previously won the continental title.
It is noteworthy that Germany is the most successful team in the European Championship alongside Spain, having won the title in 1972, 1980, and 1996, while Spain claimed it in 1964, 2008, and 2012.
