In Jordan... The First Association for Music and Art Therapy

After promising steps in using music and arts to treat various illnesses and training qualified personnel in this field, Jordan has officially launched its first specialized association dedicated to organizing frameworks, coordinating among stakeholders, and conducting necessary studies and research to expand the experience into broader horizons.

Representatives from concerned governmental bodies, including the Jordanian Artists Syndicate President, participated in the inauguration ceremony of the association, which took place at the Royal Cultural Center in Amman. The event included a demonstration of the application of music and arts in dealing with cases of visual impairments, Down syndrome, Alzheimer's, and more.

Jordan's Minister of Culture, Haifa Al-Najar, stated that "music is food for the soul and provides a kind of comfort to the self," noting that Arabs have known about music therapy since ancient times, as seen with philosophers like Al-Farabi, Al-Kindi, and Ibn Sina.

She emphasized the importance of this association in Jordan for training in communication and expression, and for stimulating human potential for change as means to achieve mental and physical health. Al-Najar clarified that music and arts therapy is part of the creative cultural industries that offer various groups a space to practice either as a hobby or profession and create new productive opportunities for youth.
