Meta Platforms CEO Mark Zuckerberg revealed on Wednesday that "Threads," the company's latest social media platform, has recorded over 175 million monthly active users. In a post on Threads two days before its first anniversary, Zuckerberg remarked, "What a year." In February, he stated that the number of monthly active users on Threads exceeded 150 million. However, the monthly user count offers a limited view of the platform's popularity, as it has not disclosed key metrics like daily active users or average time spent per user.
Threads competes with Elon Musk's platform X, formerly known as Twitter. The Threads app was launched on July 5 of last year and attracted 100 million users in less than a week. This initial increase is partly attributed to the app's easy account setup for users of the popular Instagram platform. Some early users subsequently left.
Threads does not include advertisements, thus generating little revenue for Meta. Recently, the platform has entered the fediverse, a network of social media sites that support the ActivityPub protocol, allowing users to interact across these platforms.
