After Offending the Islamic Faith... Dar Al-Fatwa Takes Action

The Secretary of Fatwa in the Lebanese Republic, Sheikh Amin Al-Kurdi, has filed a complaint against Shaden Faqih for "offending and blaspheming against divine dignity and the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), assaulting the noble Islamic faith and its rituals, stirring religious and sectarian tensions, and undermining national unity," based on the instructions of the Grand Mufti of the Lebanese Republic, Sheikh Abd al-Latif Deryan. Last night, a number of citizens in the city of Tripoli held a protest in Al-Noor Square against what was stated in Faqih's "stand-up comedy," asserting that it constitutes an insult to the religion. The protesters called on religious authorities and the judiciary to hold her accountable. A march took place from the Al-Qubba area towards Al-Noor Square, during which Islamic banners were raised.

Moreover, the Association of Muslim Scholars issued the following statement: "Except for the Messenger of God, O enemy of God." When "blatant disbelief," "shameless homosexuality," "dark comedy," and "low art" converge with "depraved audiences" in "filthy dens," along with prostitution mafias and "child sexual abuse," and the gathering of destructive deputies who seek to lift legal sanctions on actions contrary to religion and nature, know that we are in the midst of a foul and shameless war that is no less fierce and damaging than the battle against the occupying Zionist entity, the first concerning the boundaries of religion and the second concerning the boundaries of the homeland.

In light of the "disgraceful clip" recorded in a "society of scum," which combined blasphemy against God, belittling the Prophet (peace be upon him), mocking prayer and sacred rituals, openly expressing disbelief, debauchery, and deviance, immoral language that violates religion and public morals, and the insult to religion and the faithful, and the continuation of such acts on stage and at tables of alcohol, as well as the support of the party that hosted this heinous described crime, we, in the Association of Muslim Scholars in Lebanon, support the Grand Mufti's call for prosecution against the offenders and the imposition of the most severe deterrent punishments against them and their ilk.

We call on spiritual authorities to join this legal action, reinforcing the covenant of "protecting the family and values" that has been signed.

We call on the government and the Ministry of Interior and all relevant parties to take decisive and swift action to stop and prosecute those involved in this disgraceful act and their supporting mafias promoting disbelief, debauchery, and vice.

We appreciate the responsible popular anger, defending religion, values, and family, and we call for activating popular movements and combining efforts of family, youth, and student associations in the name of God and the Messenger (peace be upon him).

We caution against suspicious parties entering the line of responsible measures led by Dar Al-Fatwa, the scholars, and responsible officials, as this may divert the course of confrontation from its legitimate objectives.

The strongest response remains the adherence of the faithful masses to the oneness of God, respect for the Prophet (peace be upon him), performing prayers, raising children, caring for family, preserving society, liberating the homeland, and reforming the state. May God protect the instinct and family from the mischief of the depraved and the schemes of the treacherous, and may God protect Lebanon from sin and aggression.

Shaden Faqih sparked anger in Lebanon and the Arab world after her appearance in a stand-up comedy where she insulted the divine essence, Friday prayers, and some chapters of the Holy Quran. Shaden Faqih claimed that Friday prayers are a waste of time, and her transgressions also included inappropriate words and phrases targeting the divine essence.
