The Azerbaijani Embassy in Tehran resumed its operations today, Monday, in a new location, as confirmed by the Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry stated in a press release that "as a result of negotiations between Azerbaijan and Iran, the Azerbaijani Embassy in Iran has resumed its activities starting from July 15, 2024, at its new headquarters." The statement noted that "the Iranian side has taken steps for the diplomatic protection of the new embassy building, in accordance with its commitment as the host country to ensure security under the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations."
Additionally, the statement mentioned that the Azerbaijani ambassador and embassy staff have returned to Iran, and efforts are currently underway to organize consular services in the new embassy building, with operations set to resume soon. It is worth mentioning that the activities of the Azerbaijani embassy in Tehran were suspended following an armed attack on the diplomatic mission in January 2023, amid tensions between the two countries related to Baku's accusations against Tehran of interference in its affairs and Tehran's security concerns over the growing cooperation between Azerbaijan and Israel. In recent months, signs of thawing in bilateral relations have emerged, with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev meeting Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi at the border between the two countries just hours before the Iranian president's death in a helicopter crash on May 19.
