Parliamentarian Summoned on Human Trafficking Allegations in Morocco

The Moroccan judicial police summoned the former president of the Independence party group in the House of Representatives, Nour الدين Madiyan, following a complaint filed against him by his party colleague, Rafita Al-Mansouri. The newspaper "Hespress" confirmed that Madiyan was summoned last week but apologized for attending due to his political commitments and his involvement in organizing regional conferences for appointing participants in the 18th national conference of the Independence Party.

The newspaper had previously reported that Madiyan faces accusations of "human trafficking," "threats, extortion, and defamation," based on a leaked audio recording that sources claimed represented only "part of the recordings related to the case." According to the newspaper, Madiyan requested to postpone his hearing in the issue that has shaken the foundations of the Independence Party until after the conference and the conclusion of this important phase in the party's history.

Meanwhile, the newspaper spoke to a member of Rafita Al-Mansouri's defense team, who neither confirmed nor denied Madiyan's summons for a hearing concerning the complaint against him, stating: "Legal procedures were initiated by order of the public prosecutor's office, and investigations are ongoing, with all parties to be heard." The member added: "We trust in the public prosecutor's office and in the procedures that apply to everyone since all citizens are subject to the law and its authority."

He further stated: "No one can evade the procedures mandated by the public prosecutor's office within its legal scope, regardless of their position or the authorities they claim to possess, or the excuses they may rely upon. We trust in the public prosecutor's office and its commitment to enforcing the law, and we affirm that the accused cannot use the existence of regional conferences or their political engagements to avoid submission to the authority of the law." He concluded: "The allegations and offenses mentioned in Madiyan's audio recording against our client."
