As calls intensify for Democratic President Joe Biden to withdraw from the presidential race, Republican candidate and former President Donald Trump seems confident in winning the upcoming elections if Biden continues his campaign for the White House. On his platform "Truth Social," Trump stated, "Joe Biden should ignore his many critics and move forward with his candidacy," describing Biden's campaign as "the campaign of American destruction."
Trump also claimed that President Joe Biden has been attempting to "make China great again," which is contrary to the slogan he used in his previous campaign when he won the presidency, which stated "Make America Great Again."
Biden's situation, following a dismal debate against Trump, terrifies Democrats, as calls from Democratic lawmakers have started to publicly urge Biden to reconsider his re-election bid. The Wall Street Journal reported that a fifth member of Congress publicly called on Biden to end his attempts to secure re-election in 2024, creating a new rift in the supportive wall that once protected the president.
Democratic Representative Angie Craig from Minnesota stated in a Saturday statement, "I do not believe the president is capable of running an effective campaign and winning against Donald Trump. This is not a decision made lightly, but there is simply too much at stake to risk a second Trump presidency."
This statement came as Biden tried to counter the growing criticisms during his public appearances, as he spoke at a rare rally in Madison, Wisconsin, on Friday and gave a nearly 20-minute television interview in which he claimed he would remain in the race. He also added two campaign events in Pennsylvania to his schedule on Sunday. In response to Craig's statement, Biden's campaign sent out a long list of Democrats who publicly stated they would stand by the president, including members of Congress from the pivotal swing state of Michigan.
