The General Company for Ports of Iraq revealed today, Wednesday, that 94% of the quays of the Grand Faw Project have been completed, noting that the delivery of all quays in the project is expected to be by the end of this year. The Director General of the company, Farhan Al-Fartousi, stated in an interview with "Baghdad Today" that "the submerged tunnel at the port will have its pouring completed within four days," indicating that "the container yard will have its filling completed by the end of this year, while the road within the port will be navigable in a few months."
He added that "the four quays have been completed and there is not much left to complete all the quays except for the stone covering of the slopes, in addition to linking the quays to the container yard via bridges," explaining that "the completion rate for them has reached 94%, and they will be received in October of this year." Al-Fartousi pointed out that "the completion rate for the container yard is about 75%, while the road connecting the Faw Port to the Umm Qasr area, which is 51 km long, has seen the first layer of paving completed over 41 km."
He noted, "We promised the Prime Minister that the paving will be completed in November, as it represents significant importance and is the first segment of the development road." The Grand Faw Port is an Iraqi port located in the Faw Peninsula in the southern Basra Governorate. It is expected that the depths of the port will be 19 meters to accommodate the largest commercial ships. The cornerstone of this project was laid on April 5, 2010.
