Unique Emirati Heritage Events in Morocco

The United Arab Emirates is participating in a variety of heritage and cultural events and competitions during the Tan Tan Cultural Season, which started yesterday under the patronage of King Mohammed VI of Morocco and will continue until June 30. The Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority is presenting various activities that highlight Emirati heritage and the efforts made by the wise leadership to preserve and ensure its sustainability.

The UAE pavilion at the Tan Tan Season showcases artistic displays of Emirati heritage, featuring a number of folk arts such as Al-Razfa, Al-Azi, Al-Ayala, and Al-Harbia, along with other marine, mountain, and desert arts. Performance arts such as Al-Taghrooda and Al-Hida also take the spotlight, alongside various traditional crafts, popular cooking displays, Moroccan cooking competitions, and participation from desert tribes in preparing Moroccan tea.

The pavilion includes a photo exhibition reflecting the strong historical ties between the two brotherly countries, in collaboration with the National Archive and Library, as well as handicrafts produced in cooperation with the General Women’s Union. It features marine environmental displays, traditional Emirati dishes, Arabic coffee, popular attire, and gold jewelry, as well as elements of intangible Emirati heritage.

The pavilion participates in poetry evenings featuring poets from the UAE and Morocco, along with musical performances and other diverse cultural and heritage events taking place throughout the Tan Tan Season. This includes popular cooking contests and the preparation of Moroccan tea, alongside sponsoring the Abdauraida competition, which is a Moroccan heritage competition.

Additionally, the UAE pavilion organizes popular games for children visiting the season, competitions for Moroccan tea preparation, cooking challenges, and heritage-related questions for the audience. The first day also witnessed the launch of the Milking Contest organized by the Emirati pavilion, with participation from 150 camel owners from Morocco competing with their camels in four rounds, as part of camel competitions such as “Camel Racing,” “Camel Beauty Pageant,” and the “Milking Contest,” in collaboration with the UAE Camel Racing Federation.
