Discover the Beauty of the Traditional Saudi Village

The village of "Dhiy Ain" is located in Qalwa governorate in Al-Baha, at an altitude of about 2000 meters, atop the white mountain which has a unique and organized pyramidal shape. It overlooks "Wadi Rash" to the west and is surrounded by mountainous highlands on all sides. Its history dates back to the end of the 10th Hijri century (8th century AD), making it over 400 years old, according to UNESCO. The village is distinguished by its beautiful shape and is considered one of the wonderful tourist spots that attracts many visitors, who enjoy the stunning view of the village.

"Dhiy Ain" is one of the most important heritage villages in the Arabian Peninsula. It got its name from a spring that passes through it and flows from the surrounding mountains and includes more than 80 houses, among which are 58 traditional palaces. All are designed to be adjacent and stacked on top of one another due to the mountainous nature of the village.

One of its remarkable features is the abundant rainfall, especially during the summer, making it a successful agricultural environment and a suitable place for tourism. As a result, the village has a strategic location on the mountains of the surrounding agricultural lands, where it is known for cultivating a variety of plants and fruits, as well as high-quality handicrafts. The agricultural land spans more than 75,000 square meters and produces over eight tons of bananas annually, alongside an annual production of more than 21,500 flowers of the "kadi" flower, in addition to over 700 coffee trees.

The village of "Dhiy Ain" includes a small mosque, and it may appear from the outside as a single fortress. The village was built using a homogeneous type of volcanic stone, while mud and bricks were used inside the buildings. It also features two historical fortresses that rise above the buildings to provide a complete view of the surrounding area from all sides.

The traditional village of Dhiy Ain receives a large number of tourists and hosts many events and programs during the winter season, which is characterized by moderate weather, the most important being the Banana and Kadi Festival. Visitors can learn about the customs of the people of Al-Baha through an extensive explanation of the village, its farms, and traditional foods (such as kouskous, rice, mulukhiyah bread, asida, and meat wrapped in banana leaves), animal milking, and listening to shepherding music (Sefriqa), as well as henna rituals and participating in joyful ululations announcing a wedding celebration in the village.
