The External Relations Department of the Lebanese Forces Party clarified, in response to the recent decision by the European Parliament regarding the situation in Lebanon, that "the Lebanese Forces Party praises the provisions of the decision that addressed essential topics, foremost among them the presidential and municipal elections, the investigation into the Beirut port explosion, holding corrupt politicians accountable, disarming armed groups, and imposing sanctions on those who obstruct justice and constitutional institutions." The Lebanese Forces Party considered that "(Article 13) of the decision regarding Syrian refugees is "contrary to what the Lebanese want and what we sought with our European friends and partners regarding the issue of the return of Syrians and their humanitarian support in their country, although we welcome the European Parliament's call to form an international task force."
They asserted that "the primary responsibility lies first and foremost with the state and its administrations, which should immediately start reclassifying the Syrians residing in Lebanon instead of lamenting and engaging in demagoguery, and work with the UN High Commissioner for Refugees to determine refugee status based on a serious actual plan for the return of Syrians to their homes."
It was noted that "most Syrian regions have become stable and free from hostilities. The voluntary and dignified return of Syrian refugees has become feasible." They emphasized that "Lebanon can no longer bear the burdens of hosting refugees due to its political, economic, social, and demographic conditions," calling for the return of refugees to their country and pressing the Syrian regime to facilitate this, or to resettle them in a third country.
