The active committee of contracted teachers in official basic education stated in a statement that "the decision to raise the monitoring fee for the 2024 official exams for teachers and committees, confirmed today by Directorate General of Education Director Imad Al-Ashqar, proves once again that the active committee is the one holding the position that changes the equation. At a time when all voices are faint, submissive, and indifferent to the rights of teachers, the committee rises to the occasion and demands justice for teachers, as happened before the exams when they announced their decision not to supervise in exchange for an amount equal to $15, defending both contracted teachers and tenured staff who condemned anyone who asked them to supervise as servile. They had all the time to demand an increase in the monitoring fee but did not act until public opinion was agitated over the meager amount designated for teachers, who were urged to comply with our position. Today, the day after the exams began, they began meeting with the ministry to leak the news that the director general announced an increase in the monitoring fee." The statement confirmed that "this increase once again proves the commitment of the active committee to the rights of teachers and its insistence on confronting alone and mobilizing public opinion to expose those who pledge allegiance to the ministry’s disregard for teachers' rights, forcing the ministry to acknowledge their rights."
