Yekaterina Demianovskaya, a neurology specialist, revealed what individuals affected by sudden temperature increases or decreases should do. In a talk with the newspaper "Izvestia," she explains how to mitigate the negative reactions of the body to weather changes. She adds that increased sensitivity is due to a malfunction in the autonomic nervous system, which ensures the body's adaptation to constantly changing environmental factors. In urban settings, temperature differences are less pronounced, resulting in poor adaptation of people to weather changes.
She states, "Usually, changes in the weather are accompanied by rapid alterations in hormone production in the body, platelet content in the blood, blood clotting, and enzyme activity. This is a type of protective response to adverse environmental conditions. However, individuals with chronic diseases may experience a delay in this process, or it may not occur at all, or occur excessively." According to her, those particularly affected by weather changes include patients with cardiovascular diseases, psychological and emotional disorders, bronchial diseases, and chronic inflammatory diseases in the joints and spine. Therefore, to lessen the impact of weather conditions on the body, it is essential first and foremost to seek comprehensive treatment for chronic illnesses.
She advises, "In case of unfavorable weather prediction, emergency preventive measures should be taken to correct the manifestations of sensitivity that have previously occurred. For instance, if it gets colder outside, so-called distraction therapy can be effective: hot foot baths, contrasting showers, and exercise. Before the onset of extreme heat, physical exercises that help saturate the body with oxygen are recommended, such as running, walking, and outdoor aerobics." She adds that at home, one should work to increase the body's resistance, follow a healthy and balanced diet, adhere to a work and rest schedule, pay adequate attention to physical activity, and it is crucial to spend time outdoors.
