At the age of 44, prisoner Khader Adnan, a leader in the Palestinian Islamic Jihad movement, died in an Israeli prison after a long battle, during which he went on a hunger strike for 87 days in protest of his detention. The prisoner Khader Adnan passed away two days after an Israeli military court at "Ofer" prison rejected his release, despite his health condition reaching a very critical stage. Adnan began his hunger strike from the moment of his arrest on February 5, when Israeli forces raided his home in the Jenin camp. This last arrest was his 14th, during which he spent a cumulative total of nearly 9 years in prison.
His wife confirms that from the moment Israel arrested him, an officer informed her that he was "on a hunger strike, and refusing food and drink and even speaking." Adnan initiated the first phase of his hunger strike in 2005 alongside a group of detainees from Gaza, lasting 25 days in opposition to his solitary confinement, and they achieved their demands.
At the end of 2011 and the beginning of 2012, he undertook his second battle with a famous hunger strike that lasted 66 days against his administrative detention, succeeding in obtaining a decision for his release.
In 2015, he undertook his third hunger strike against administrative detention, which lasted 58 days. In 2018, he engaged in another strike for 54 days. In 2021, he was on a hunger strike for 25 days before eventually being released after 5 days.
Today, on May 2, Adnan passed away following an 87-day hunger strike. It is worth noting that the deceased held a bachelor's degree in economic mathematics and was married with nine children.
