The caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati sponsored the launch ceremony of the events "Tripoli: History and Renewal" this Wednesday afternoon at the Arab University of Beirut - Tripoli branch, organized by the Arab University of Beirut and the Association of Determination and Social Happiness.
Mikati delivered a speech stating, "Our meeting today is titled (History and Renewal) in Tripoli, which has hosted nations, eras, and civilizations for thousands of years, accumulating ancient, medieval, and modern history. Its circumstances have shifted between occupation and liberation, poverty and prosperity, conflicts and stability, development and stagnation, until it became today the capital of Arab culture, and originally the capital of Arabism and moderation."
He continued, "In all its conditions, Tripoli has been and still is a city of knowledge, tolerance, and shared living. It has achieved, throughout the eras, the meaning of its original existence as a space for convergence, understanding, and solidarity to serve humanity and the nation. The people of Tripoli, with their innate faith and sincere nationalism, are determined to continually renew their history and constantly look forward to a bright tomorrow, even while living in the harshest conditions. While the city has faced various difficulties for decades, its unique location and the resources it possesses are sufficient to renew its history and restore its national, economic, and humanitarian role, not just at the level of Lebanon, but globally. This, of course, requires the fusion of central state interest with local community activity, especially its official aspect, including all civil society organizations."
He concluded, "It is very beautiful what we have seen outside this hall, scenes that belong to the heritage of Tripoli, which is a living part of our memory. It is our duty to preserve this heritage and pass it on to future generations, because history is the foundation of the future, and because the past, present, and future are times filled by humans with their actions and presence throughout time and space. The cooperation between the Arab University of Beirut and the Association of Determination and Social Happiness in this regard is merely the starting point for closer collaboration to serve our beloved city."
