Security Campaign in Iraq to Eradicate

An informed source revealed a security campaign aimed at ending what it calls "witchcraft and sorcery platforms" in Iraqi provinces. The source told "Baghdad Today" that "some sorcerers and charlatans practice systematic deception through social media to ensnare their victims, especially women, by exploiting their ignorance to drain their financial savings."

The source added that "there is a green light for a campaign to end the platforms of sorcerers and charlatans and track them down in the provinces, especially since there have been numerous complaints regarding some who do not limit their actions to merely stealing money through exploitation, but have also engaged in moral corruption."

The source pointed out that "four operations took place in the past week to track sorcerers and charlatans, with the arrest of some of them who are under investigation," noting that "community awareness and its interaction with the interior ministry’s guidelines ensure the reduction of this abhorrent phenomenon that leads to many issues."

It is noteworthy that recently, the phenomenon of "electronic sorcery and witchcraft" has emerged in Iraq, primarily through social media platforms. Social experts attribute this to "the worsening social problems resulting from economic decline and diminished individual awareness, along with feelings of despair and frustration, as sorcery and charlatanry are promoted through social networks under the guise of 'spiritual healers.'"

The phenomenon of witchcraft or electronic sorcery is most prevalent on "Facebook," as this platform gathers a large segment of society, allowing "spiritualists" to exploit or defraud a greater number of people. Most of their victims are women, who are exploited both financially and sometimes physically.
