Yesterday, widespread outages affected Facebook, Instagram, and Threads, preventing users from accessing their accounts. After about two hours, Meta announced the return of its platforms following the disruptions. Meta spokesperson Andy Stone stated on the platform X: "Earlier, due to a technical issue, users faced difficulties accessing several of our services." He added, "We resolved the issue as quickly as possible for everyone affected, and we apologize for any inconvenience."
In this context, technology and social media consultant for Al Arabiya channel, Anas Al-Najdawi, noted that "this outage is not the first for Meta platforms. We experienced a larger outage about two years ago that lasted over 6 hours." He clarified that "what happened this time may be due to errors or issues during server updates and changes in software architecture, which led to almost 500,000 users on the main Facebook platform, over 50,000 on Instagram, and around 10,000 on Messenger being unable to access the service." He added that "these technical errors can occur even in the most complex and secure systems, and this is normal."
So, how would life be without social media? Some people believe that the situation would feel strange without social media, making life boring since they wouldn't find anything to do. They also pointed out that it allows for staying in touch with friends and relatives for years. Conversely, others argued that life would become better and quieter, emphasizing that many things would be more straightforward, as "social media has been destructive for many things and many aspects of society."
