Iraq: Drone Attack on Ain al-Asad Base

An officer in the Iraqi army reported that the vicinity of Ain al-Asad base in western Iraq, which hosts American forces, was attacked by two drones this evening (Tuesday), resulting in no casualties. The officer, who requested anonymity, told the Xinhua News Agency that "the vicinity of Ain al-Asad base in Anbar province was attacked by two drones without resulting in any damages." The source noted that American Chinook helicopters flew over the vicinity of the base and the nearby areas, indicating that the Iraqi forces stationed at the base were put on heightened alert. No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.

This incident marks the first attack on Ain al-Asad base since Iraqi armed factions ceased attacks on bases housing American and coalition forces several months ago, following the start of negotiations between the Iraqi government and coalition forces to end their presence in Iraq.

In this context, armed Iraqi factions calling themselves the Islamic Resistance in Iraq announced an attack on an Israeli base using drones. The factions stated in a press release, "The Islamic Resistance in Iraq attacked the Ma'alem base on our occupied lands with drones this evening." The statement did not provide further details, merely stating, "The Islamic Resistance confirms the continuation of operations targeting enemy strongholds at an escalating pace."

Since the outbreak of fighting between the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) and Israel in Gaza and its surroundings on October 7, these Islamic resistance factions in Iraq have been launching attacks with rockets, drones, and mortars on Iraqi military bases housing American and coalition forces, as well as American bases in Syria. Recently, these factions resumed drone attacks on sites inside Israel, as well as using developed cruise missiles.
