Berri and Mikati: A Calm and Deliberate Approach to the Military Institution

Today, Thursday, Speaker of the House Nabih Berri received caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati at the second presidential headquarters in Ain El-Tineh. The two presidents discussed various topics and recent developments, including the military institution, which has garnered the attention of all Lebanese, focusing on its strengthening and preservation as a national unifying entity that embodies the aspirations of the Lebanese in terms of security and safeguarding their national sovereignty. They emphasized that "the topic of the military institution should be approached with calmness and deliberation, and desired results can hopefully be achieved."

Additionally, President Berri also received Ali Hamiyeh, the caretaker Minister of Public Works and Transport, with whom he reviewed the general conditions and affairs of the Ministry of Public Works, particularly concerning the readiness of its agencies to address current developments due to the Israeli aggression. After the meeting, Minister Hamiyeh stated, "In follow-up to the current situation in the country concerning the border with occupied Palestine, the Ministry of Public Works and Transport is responsible for three essential matters: roads, bridges, and ports, as well as the airport." He continued, "We informed President Berri about the readiness of the ministry regarding administrative matters and our follow-ups in case of any damage to Lebanese infrastructure." Hamiyeh concluded, "We also briefed him on the Cabinet's decision recently issued in this context, to take necessary measures concerning commercial and oil ports, roads, and bridges, as these are sensitive facilities. We aim to be prepared for any emergencies."

During the afternoon, Speaker Berri received Wadi Khalil, the former Minister and Dean of the Maronite Council, who discussed the political updates and general conditions. After the meeting, Khalil commented, "I was honored to visit President Berri, where we discussed the dangers facing Lebanon and the intensity of the crises it is grappling with, as well as the tragic conditions in Gaza, which resonate into southern Lebanon." He praised Berri's foresight and the firmness of his positions, expressing hope that his wise policy would deter the enemy and undermine its destructive objectives behind daily attacks and repeated crimes against south Lebanon, where the resistance bravely defends. Khalil added, "I also commended the initiative by MP Gebran Bassil, which aligns with President Berri's call for dialogue and consultation to end the ongoing vacuums in state positions." He conveyed his welcome for any steps aimed at unifying the Lebanese, consolidating coexistence, and facing risks with unity and solidarity, prioritizing the nation's interest.

Later, President Berri received Bishop Paul Matar.
