The Director General of General Security, Major General Abbas Ibrahim, held a series of meetings during his official visit to Iraq. The discussions focused on the overall situation in the region, the bilateral relations between the brotherly countries of Lebanon and Iraq, and ways to enhance and activate joint cooperation based on the existing partnership and brotherhood between them.
General Ibrahim started his meetings with Iraqi President Dr. Abdul Latif Rashid, where they reviewed the bilateral relations and the regional situation, especially in Lebanon and Iraq. The Director General of General Security presented his vision regarding the realities of the situations and how to address the ongoing crises.
He then met with Iraqi Prime Minister Dr. Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani, where they discussed the general developments from various aspects, especially the situation in Lebanon and the file of Syrian refugees.
For his part, Prime Minister al-Sudani reaffirmed the Iraqi government's commitment to providing support and assistance to Lebanon, expressing readiness to "study the urgent needs that Iraq can help fulfill."
General Ibrahim thanked Prime Minister al-Sudani for his brotherly sentiments, raising several key issues that Lebanon needs. He also praised the Iraqi Prime Minister's management in addressing the problems faced by Iraq and promoting dialogue and reconciliation among all parties and components, as well as his initiative to positively engage with neighboring countries.
Additionally, Major General Ibrahim met with Iraqi Interior Minister Abdul Amir al-Shammari to discuss mutual interests.
He also had a meeting with former Iraqi Prime Minister Iyad Allawi.
Furthermore, he met with the Chairman of the Popular Mobilization Forces, Falih al-Fayyadh, the Secretary-General of the Asa'ib Ahl al-Haq, Sheikh Qais al-Khazali, the Head of the Hikma Movement, Mr. Ammar al-Hakim, the Secretary-General of the Iraqi National Project, Sheikh Jamal al-Dhari, and the President of the Iraqi Supreme Judicial Council, Judge Faik Zidan.
The meetings included discussions on developments in the region and the situations in Lebanon and Iraq.
General Ibrahim is scheduled to conclude his visit to Iraq on Wednesday evening.
