The Al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, violently assaulted political activist Amin Abed, causing him to suffer fractures in his limbs due to his posts on Facebook. Abed is one of the individuals who remained in northern Gaza after the extensive Israeli assault on the region.
A video captured Abed's father shouting, "Cowardly agents, enough!" against Hamas leaders amidst the destruction in northern Gaza, following his son's abduction and the breaking of all four of his limbs for writing posts on Facebook. Abed's stance against Hamas dates back to before the outbreak of the Gaza war on October 7.
In June 2022, Abed stated that "Hamas's coup against legitimacy, and against itself essentially, has resulted in a state of confusion, hopelessness, and the loss of dreams and work among the youth, where the region and its youth have become devoid of all life essentials and the most basic requirements for decent living."
He added in a conversation with "Voice of Palestine" that "Hamas considers the citizen as a source of income and the fertile material for trading in Gaza, as it engages in wars periodically to increase its investments at the expense of the citizens." Abed criticized Hamas's construction of towers in Gaza, Turkey, and Indonesia and its foreign investments, despite the existence of more than 300,000 unemployed university graduates in the region. He emphasized that "Hamas practices a policy of moral assassination, as more than 40,000 citizens have emigrated from the region on death ships through the Aegean Sea to secure a better future."
