Does the International Criminal Court Have Jurisdiction over Israeli Officials?

Several member states of the International Criminal Court (ICC) announced today, Saturday, that the court has jurisdiction over Israeli officials who commit crimes in Palestinian territories. This came in a joint official statement from Spain, Ireland, Colombia, Brazil, Palestine, South Africa, Bangladesh, Bolivia, Comoros, and Djibouti, sent to the preliminary examination section responsible for issuing arrest warrants against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his Defense Minister Yoav Gallant. The statement confirmed that the court has jurisdiction over Israeli officials committing crimes in Palestinian territories according to the Rome Statute. On May 20, ICC Prosecutor Karim Khan stated that the court seeks to issue arrest warrants against the Israeli Prime Minister, his Defense Minister, and three Hamas leaders on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity regarding the attacks on October 7 on Israel and the subsequent war in Gaza.
