The Portuguese legend Cristiano Ronaldo fulfilled the greatest wish of a 4-year-old Syrian boy suffering from a serious illness by meeting him before the important match for his national team against Slovenia on Monday. The match was part of the Round of 16 in the 2024 European Cup held in Germany, which ended with Portugal advancing to the quarter-finals through a penalty shootout.
The German newspaper "Bild" revealed that Ronaldo made the dream come true for a Syrian boy named Awad, who suffers from a malignant tumor and wished to meet his favorite star. This meeting took place in Frankfurt. When the Portuguese national team arrived at the stadium, the famous striker greeted the boy before heading to the dressing room to prepare for the crucial match, promising him and his family a longer meeting after the game, which the record-breaking international scorer fulfilled.
The report added that the story began when a doctor from the palliative care team at Giessen University Hospital spoke on the radio last week, revealing that Awad comes from a Syrian refugee family and dreams of meeting Ronaldo. Awad and his family have been living in Wetzlar since October 2023 after leaving Syria in hopes of receiving medical assistance. However, the tumors that Awad suffers from have spread in his body, leaving him unable to speak.
