The family of Lin Taleb’s father confirmed at a press conference today, Friday, that they will not accept anything less than the death penalty, addressing the judges by saying, "You have entered history." Social media had circulated an image concerning the investigation, through which a picture can be drawn of the brutal assault that the child suffered at the hands of her uncle, who closed her mouth in the bathroom and broke her arm while she was trying to push him away. The family had held a large meeting with the people of the village of Sefineh Al-Qaitaa at the family home, with the participation of National Moderation Bloc member MP Walid Baaarini, as well as sheikhs, local leaders, municipal heads, and various community figures, following the issuance of the legal ruling in the case.
The Family's Statement
Aamer Malek Taleb, speaking on behalf of the family, expressed gratitude to "the Lebanese judiciary, the media, activists, security agencies, all Lebanese, and all free people worldwide for supporting Lin Taleb's case from the beginning." He noted that "this also contributed to reaching the truth," and continued: "What Judges Matilda Touma and Samiranda Nassar did is a beacon of hope for all Lebanese that 'the judiciary is still in good shape and honors the oppressed.'" He added: "Today, after the issuance of the legal ruling, I allow myself to say that the mother’s family is a criminal family against childhood; they killed the child after she was assaulted by one of her closest relatives and raped, leaving her to die without saving her, and then attempting to cover up the crime." He emphasized that no politician in the Minieh or Akkar regions accepts politicizing the case... and called on everyone to "continue to follow this case to reach its final conclusions and impose the deserved punishment on the criminals from the mother’s family."
Lawyer Taleb
The child’s lawyer, Omar Taleb, stated: "The case has proceeded in its natural course, and the result it has reached is due to the professionalism of Judges Matilda Touma and Samiranda Nassar, which is strong evidence that if the judiciary is left without political interference, it will reach a conclusion. The legal ruling is based on evidence, and this is the first stage, with subsequent stages to come. We request the media to continue to follow this case until the end."
