A spokesperson for the Russian Investigative Committee, Svetlana Petrenko, announced the arrest of former Deputy Defense Minister Dmitry Bulgakov and the initiation of an investigation into charges of illegal activities. The statement from the Federal Security Service of Russia said: "The Federal Security Service, in collaboration with the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Investigative Committee, has arrested former Deputy Defense Minister Dmitry Bulgakov as part of an investigation into a criminal case related to corruption." It added: "Investigative procedures and operational measures are currently underway to determine the causes and circumstances that contributed to Bulgakov’s illegal activities. His arrest was reported earlier." Bulgakov is 69 years old. From 2008 until September 24, 2022, he served as the Deputy Defense Minister of Russia. During his tenure, he was responsible for logistical matters of the Russian armed forces, and in 2016, he was awarded the title "Hero of Russia."
