The Jordanian Armed Forces announced today, Sunday, the launch of the "Eager Lion 2024" exercise, which will continue until May 23. The exercise involves the participation of 33 countries and is described as "one of the joint military exercises conducted by allied nations against emerging and transnational threats."
During a press conference on Sunday, Director of Military Media Brigadier Mustafa Al-Hiyari stated that the Eager Lion exercise is one of the most significant drills in the Middle East, providing a substantial advantage in terms of the diversity of experiences and the variety of methodologies gained by the participants. He pointed out that the exercise will take place across all regions of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan: north, central, and south.
He noted that the exercise has strategic objectives aimed at creating a shared understanding among participating countries regarding transnational threats such as armed groups, the proliferation of drones, and weapons of mass destruction, including biological, chemical, and nuclear weapons, as well as the dissemination methods represented by missiles with varying ranges.
Al-Hiyari explained that this year's exercise logo features three words: human, partnership, and innovation, aimed at achieving numerous goals at the strategic, operational, and tactical levels.
At the operational level, he added that the exercise is designed to align the forces of participating countries concerning planning methodology, target acquisition, and management of military operations by land, sea, and air, along with logistics support and response to natural disasters and pandemics.
At the tactical level, he clarified that the exercise is designed to train personnel both individually and collectively while enhancing skills in responding to incidents involving weapons of mass destruction and humanitarian disasters, as well as dealing with explosive ordnance search and general search and inspection operations, among other skills required for soldiers at the individual level.
