A new day of battles is being witnessed on the Russian-Ukrainian frontlines on Sunday, as the Russian army attempts to gain control of more Ukrainian territories, while Kyiv's forces strive to resist with military and logistical support from the West.
In the latest field developments, the army and officials stated that Russian air defense units shot down 7 Ukrainian drones in the Belgorod and Kursk regions near the Ukrainian border. The Russian Ministry of Defense reported that seven drones were intercepted over the Belgorod region, which has been subjected to daily Ukrainian attacks. The governor of Kursk, located northwest, mentioned that seven drones were also shot down over his area. He added that Ukrainian forces bombarded about 10 villages during the day.
Additionally, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced today that the crew of the "Iskander" tactical system destroyed two launch platforms belonging to the Ukrainian Patriot air defense missile system and a "Giraffe" radar in the Odessa region.
In contrast, officials reported that 3 civilians were killed in Russian shelling targeting the Kherson area in southern Ukraine. Prosecutors indicated that two bodies were retrieved from the rubble of a house hit by shelling in the morning in a village near Beryslav, north of the main city known also as Kherson. The regional governor, Oleksandr Prokudin, stated that artillery shelling in the evening resulted in one death in a village south of Kherson.
Russian forces seized Kherson in the early days of the comprehensive military operation in Ukraine, which began in February 2022. Ukrainian forces regained control of most areas of the region later that year, but Russian forces continue to shell areas under Ukrainian control on the eastern bank of the Dnieper River.
