Electricity Workers Union Announces Continued Strike

The Union of Workers and Employees of the Electricité du Liban has decided to continue its strike until Monday, August 12, 2024, "to allow for negotiations promised by the Minister of Finance." It issued the following statement: "During the open meetings of the Executive Council of the Union of Workers and Employees of Electricité du Liban, and after the promise of a meeting that was scheduled for today, Wednesday, August 7, 2024, with the Minister of Finance, which did not occur for unknown reasons, the Union has decided to continue the strike until Monday, August 12, 2024, to allow for the promised negotiations by the Minister of Finance. The union calls upon all workers and employees to assemble inside workplaces across all Lebanese territories and to refrain from any work or operations without coordinating with the union."
