A young girl took her last breaths under torture and severe beating at the hands of her father in Idlib, northwestern Syria, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights on Saturday. The observatory reported that the father "tied her up for several hours without clothes on the roof of the house in the sweltering heat." It added that he "brutally beat her" and "tortured her in various ways until she died in his hands." It was confirmed that he committed this crime "due to a dispute with his second wife." Security forces in Idlib arrested the girl's father for investigation regarding the reasons behind this crime, and he has been referred to the competent judiciary, according to the observatory. Since the beginning of 2024, the Syrian Observatory has documented 42 similar cases resulting in the deaths of 31 individuals and injuries to 63 others.
