The Bee Farmers' Syndicate in Beqaa confirmed that the increase in customs dollar from 15,000 LBP to 45,000 LBP has affected buying and selling activities, leading to price increases, especially for medicines and other supplies needed by farmers. This has raised production costs.
In a statement, the syndicate called for "exempting these goods from the increase in customs duties and providing the necessary support to preserve what remains of this sector."
It emphasized the need for comprehensive and accurate statistics, ensuring that the data recorded by the concerned syndicates in the specialized sector is verified. The syndicate also urged the Minister of Agriculture to "adopt a project to secure health insurance for farmers and collaborate with the Minister of Labor to enable farmers to benefit from the services provided by the National Social Security Fund."
Additionally, it urged "work to restore confidence in the national currency after its value has significantly deteriorated, not to succumb to American pressures, and to open economic channels with countries that have expressed their willingness and readiness to assist, especially the Islamic Republic of Iran, the People's Republic of China, and others."
