In the corridors of the American Democratic Party, alternatives to President Joe Biden are being discussed following his withdrawal from the presidential race scheduled for November. Kamala Harris, the current Vice President, is among the names mentioned due to her position; however, some are concerned about her potential failure due to a lack of necessary popularity.
Gavin Newsom, the Governor of California, is considered one of the prominent names for succeeding Biden, having previously served as the state’s Lieutenant Governor since 2011. Mark Kelly, a former NASA astronaut, is also seen as a contender. Wes Moore managed to end eight years of Republican rule in his state. Josh Shapiro has previously served as the Attorney General of Pennsylvania. Gretchen Whitmer, the Governor of Michigan since 2019, is regarded as a Democratic Party leader who has been in office since 2019.
Concerns from Republicans regarding Harris have increased; she has become a source of worry for the Republican Party's donors as several high-profile figures within the Democratic Party begin to rally behind her. Prominent Democrats say Harris would be the natural successor to President Joe Biden. If Harris, aged 59, a former U.S. Senator and past Attorney General of California, becomes the Democratic Party’s nominee and wins in November, she would be the first female president in U.S. history, and she is currently the first Black and Asian American woman to hold the office of Vice President.
