Hassemani: The Necessity of Holding Municipal and Optional Elections

MP Ghassan Hassemni stressed the need to prioritize national issues, elect a president for the republic, and conduct municipal and optional elections. He highlighted the significance of the capital Beirut's electoral issues and the importance of its residents' cohesion and the coexistence it represents, urging for this to be preserved.

Hassemni made these statements during a visit to Dar al-Fatwa at the head of a delegation from the Lebanese Forces, commissioned by the party leader Samir Geagea, to invite Mufti Sheikh Abdul Latif Deryan to an iftar dinner on the evening of Wednesday, April 12, at Maarab.

Regarding the commitment to the issue of parity in Beirut's municipality, Hassemni said: "The Mufti is very keen on adhering to this matter, and we sensed his full support for political forces to engage with each other to achieve goals that serve the interest of the capital."

On the chances of "Moustaqbal Movement" leader Sleiman Frangieh reaching the presidency, he stated: "The chances are slim, regardless of international positions and external movements."

Regarding the nomination of Army Commander General Joseph Aoun, Hassemni noted that General Aoun is among the candidates recognized for their national stances, leadership abilities, and firmness in making decisions that protect national sovereignty and respect the constitution. "These qualities are not far from him, but the most important thing is to open the doors of the Parliament and remove the constraints on holding the presidential elections within the council. We are confident that the MPs will reach a decision on a name capable of fulfilling the required duties."
