Oman: Oil Tanker "Prestige Falcon" Capsized off the Coast of Duqm

Oman: Oil Tanker

The Omani Maritime Security Center announced that the oil tanker "Prestige Falcon," flying the Comoros flag, capsized off the coast of Duqm. Shipping data from the London Stock Exchange Group indicated that the vessel's destination was Aden, Yemen. The shipping data revealed that the ill-fated ship is a 117-meter-long oil products tanker built in 2007. Such small tankers are typically used for short trips only. Oman’s official news agency reported this afternoon that Omani authorities conducted a search and rescue operation at the accident site in coordination with maritime authorities. The port of Duqm is located on the southwestern coast of Oman near major oil and gas mining projects in the sultanate, including a major oil refinery that is part of the vast Duqm Industrial Area, the largest single economic project in Oman.
