A court in Bangladesh ordered today, Tuesday, an investigation into former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and six senior officials in her government regarding the death of a man during protests in July. Lawyer Mamun Mia stated that he submitted a request to the Dhaka court, which instructed the police to open an investigation "against the accused." Mia, representing a citizen, explained that "a case was filed against Sheikh Hasina and six others accused of responsibility for the killing of a grocery store owner on July 19 by police gunfire during the brutal crackdown on anti-government protests." The local newspaper "Daily Star" reported that citizen Amir Hamza Shatil filed the case in the court; he is a resident of the neighborhood where the shooting resulted in the store owner's death. The other accused in this case include former Interior Minister Asaduzaman Khan, the general secretary of the Awami League party Obaidul Quader, and four senior police officials: Inspector General Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun, Chief of the Criminal Investigation Department Harun-ur-Rashid, and two police officers in Dhaka.
