The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), affiliated with the Kurdish self-administration controlling vast areas in Northern and Eastern Syria, released 111 terrorism suspects from the Alaya prison in Qamishli under a pardon issued by the administration. Video clips showed the moment the prisoners were released from Alaya prison in Qamishli, bringing the total number of those freed from SDF prisons in Northeast Syria to 1,511 individuals. In the accompanying video, one of the released groups was led by a notable elder from the region, indicating a pardon facilitated by tribal elders from the local Arab communities who are residents of the area.
Families and relatives of the released gathered at the prison's exit to welcome them, with women ululating and shedding tears of joy at the reunion with their sons or brothers gaining their freedom. The videos also featured many individuals asking the released about relatives or friends who remain detained in Alaya prison, which is managed by the SDF.
The so-called "self-administration" of Northern and Eastern Syria issued a general amnesty on Wednesday that included Syrians who committed "terrorism" crimes against the security of the self-administration and the SDF. However, the amnesty excludes leaders and princes of terrorist organizations, those involved in bombings and combat operations against the SDF, as well as crimes that resulted in human fatalities.
