Israeli authorities have released Jordanian MP Imad Al-Adwan, who had been detained on charges of smuggling light weapons and gold, while his trial will continue within the Jordanian judicial system. Jordanian Foreign Ministry spokesman, Ambassador Sinan Al-Majali, stated, "The process of handing over MP Imad Al-Adwan from the Israeli authorities to the relevant Jordanian security authorities has begun at the King Hussein Bridge."
Israeli Channel 14 reported on Sunday that "after two weeks of detention and interrogation regarding a case involving the smuggling of quantities of weapons and gold for use by terrorist organizations in the West Bank, Israel decided to release Jordanian MP Imad Al-Adwan. It is still unclear whether Jordan will commit to expelling him from parliament or take criminal action against him as part of the release process."
The channel noted that "Israel will pressure Jordan, demanding the expulsion of MP Al-Adwan from parliament and taking criminal actions against him as part of the agreement for his release." It is worth mentioning that Israeli authorities had stopped MP Imad Al-Adwan on April 23, claiming he attempted to smuggle weapons and quantities of gold through the Al-Karama crossing. Israeli sources indicated that "three bags containing 12 long guns, 270 submachine guns, 167 Glock guns, and 100 kilograms of gold were seized."
