The British newspaper "Mirror" reported that the opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris is on the verge of failure due to the threat of a strike by the French union of performing artists. As the start date of the Olympic Games approaches, a dispute has erupted within the French union of performing artists regarding artist wages. This conflict not only threatens the opening ceremony of the event but also casts a shadow over the rehearsals for the opening ceremony of the Paralympic Games.
The Olympic opening ceremony, which will take place on the Seine River on July 26, is set to feature a massive performance involving 3,000 artists and 400 dancers. The French union of performing artists stated: "At this very moment, costume rehearsals for the Olympic opening ceremony are taking place, and we regret to announce a strike regarding the performance on July 26 as well as the subsequent rehearsals for the opening of the Paralympic Games."
The union criticized the organizers of the opening ceremony: "While the slogan 'We work better together' is displayed everywhere in the streets of Paris today, we note that our working conditions have not been discussed together, nor for the better." The French union of performing artists expressed dissatisfaction with the working conditions for artists, unequal treatment, and the lack of social dialogue during the preparations for the celebrations.
It is noteworthy that Russian athletes will miss the parade of participating delegations during the opening ceremony due to a decision from the International Olympic Committee, which stated that Russians will participate under a neutral status.
