"The Kataeb": Hamas' Declaration is a Direct Challenge to the State

The Kataeb political bureau held a meeting today, Tuesday, chaired by Vice President Michel Khoury due to the party leader's absence from the country. The discussions focused on the latest developments, particularly the war between Israel and Hamas, and the revealed intentions to involve Lebanon. After deliberations, the following statement was issued:

"The Kataeb political bureau expresses its absolute rejection of the ongoing infringement of Lebanon by armed militias that have surpassed the state, which is a permanent absence. The Lebanese people refuse to be dragged into war, while calls have been raised to form their own faction under the name 'The Vanguards of the Al-Aqsa Flood'—a rejection of the 'Fatahland' that cost the country so much in tragedies, with the Lebanese paying the highest prices, and not sparing the Palestinians.

The Kataeb Party considers the announcement made yesterday by Hamas to be a direct challenge to the Lebanese state, holding those who remain silent about it accountable for all the consequences that may arise from this complete absence of responsibility and the shameful abandonment of any sense of national sovereignty and the existence of a people facing the most heinous types of violations against their existence.

The Kataeb political bureau holds the government, as a remnant of authority, responsible for failing to carry out the most basic duties in standing against legislative opening of Lebanon's doors to winds that it is completely incapable of facing given its known circumstances. It warns against repeating past experiences of the state abandoning the Lebanese people's right to live in a free, sovereign, and independent country. It reiterates the necessity of making a clear and explicit political decision to deploy the Lebanese army and security forces across all borders to be the sole guarantor of peace.

The Kataeb Party calls on the international community, which is leading diligent efforts through its envoys and ambassadors to prevent Lebanon from being embroiled in any confrontations, to intervene quickly and exert all necessary efforts to stop this encroachment on the country and its sovereignty, as well as the ongoing attempts to drag it into the games of arenas and axes. It stresses the importance of adhering to the implementation of the international resolutions 1559, 1680, and primarily 1701."
