Syrian President Bashar Assad emphasized that Lebanon's strength lies in its political and economic stability, and that the Lebanese people are capable of creating this stability through dialogue and consensus. He noted that it is crucial to adhere to principles rather than relying on changes, adding that Lebanon's stability benefits Syria and the region as a whole. During his meeting with former Lebanese President Michel Aoun in Damascus today, he stated that "Syria and Lebanon cannot view their challenges in isolation from each other," mentioning that the recent Arab-Arab rapprochement, evident in the Jeddah summit, "will have a positive impact on Syria and Lebanon."
Assad praised Aoun's role in preserving the brotherly relationship between Syria and Lebanon for the benefit of both countries, expressing confidence in the Lebanese ability to overcome all problems and challenges while reinforcing their national and constitutional institutions. For his part, Aoun reaffirmed that the Lebanese are committed to their national unity despite everything. He also pointed out that Syria has overcome its difficult and dangerous phase thanks to the awareness of its people and their faith in their country, army, and leadership, indicating that Syria's resurgence and prosperity will positively reflect on Lebanon and the Lebanese people.
