A 7.4 magnitude earthquake hit northern Chile, as announced by the U.S. Geological Survey, with no tsunami warning currently issued. The epicenter of the tremor is located 265 kilometers east of the coastal city of Antofagasta at a depth of 126 kilometers, according to the institute. Chilean President Gabriel Boric wrote on the platform "X": "So far, there are no reports of injuries or significant damage, but teams are gathering information." Chile is situated on the "Ring of Fire" in the Pacific Ocean, a region of intense seismic activity that extends from Japan through Southeast Asia and across the Pacific Basin. In 2010, an earthquake measuring 8.8 caused a tsunami that swept through entire villages in the south and central parts of the country, resulting in around 520 fatalities. Chile is bordered by the Pacific Ocean to the west and the Andes mountain range to the east, making it one of the most seismically active countries in the world. The epicenter of the earthquake on Thursday was about 80 kilometers from Chile's border with Argentina and less than 30 kilometers from its border with Bolivia.
