Law enforcement in Blagoveshchensk, Russia, arrested a man on his wedding day after he was charged with stabbing. In a statement to RT, the Investigative Committee in the Amur region of Russia indicated that the 29-year-old groom, named Edward, was transferred to a court detention center after his arrest and subsequently placed under house arrest at his home while awaiting a court decision, with permission to see his wife.
In Blagoveshchensk, Russia, the groom was arrested right during the wedding ceremony at the registry office. This occurred because, a couple of months prior, the groom had stabbed a man in the chest during a celebration for Border Guard Day. He fled the scene at the time.
According to information provided by the committee, the young man was out for a walk with his bride on May 28, the day of the Russian Border Guard Day, when they encountered a group of people celebrating loudly. A quarrel ensued between him and the revelers, ending with him stabbing a 57-year-old man. The Investigative Committee stated that the man who was stabbed was discharged from the hospital after recovering and was not a member of the Russian Border Guard, contrary to some earlier media reports.
Edward explained to investigators that he was carrying a knife for self-defense on the day of the incident. Investigations did not find any evidence of wrongdoing by the bride on that day.
