On Tuesday, the President of the UAE Federal National Council, Saqr Ghobash, received the President of the Qatari Shura Council, Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanem, along with his accompanying delegation at the headquarters of the Federal National Council in Abu Dhabi during his official visit to the UAE leading a parliamentary delegation.
Saqr Ghobash discussed ways to activate joint work through parliamentary diplomacy and during international participations and events, aiming to achieve the goals and aspirations of the two countries and their brotherly peoples. The two sides confirmed the importance of enhancing the system of joint parliamentary work within the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) to broaden its horizons on all levels, fulfilling the interests and aspirations of the peoples of GCC countries towards development, progress, and prosperity.
They also emphasized the importance of exchanging bilateral visits that serve their common interests, strengthening parliamentary cooperation, and supporting the prominent roles of the UAE and Qatar in ensuring security, stability, progress, prosperity, and spreading peace for the benefit of humanity in the region and the world.
Both parties underscored the positive and strategic cooperation on various regional and international issues within the framework of the GCC on political issues and paths for joint cooperation, expanding its horizons in various areas that serve the mutual interests of both countries and achieve their peoples’ aspirations for further development and prosperity.
For his part, Ghobash stated that the UAE continues to coordinate and effectively cooperate with its GCC brothers, including the brotherly State of Qatar, to enhance solidarity and collaborative efforts and address the issues affecting their shared interests, particularly in facing crises and challenges.
Ghobash noted the deep-rooted brotherly relations historically between the UAE and Qatar, based on factors such as religion, language, kinship, neighborhood, customs, traditions, history, and common destiny, as well as both countries' membership in the GCC and various regional and international forums.
He highlighted the importance of enhancing parliamentary coordination and cooperation at various levels towards broader horizons and the significance of exchanging parliamentary experiences and knowledge, benefiting from the pioneering experience of both councils in legislative and oversight specializations for the good, progress, and prosperity of the two brotherly peoples, achieving their common interests, and strengthening the path of the GCC.
Ghobash also extended an invitation to the Qatari Shura Council President to participate in the parliamentary conference on climate change, which will take place on the sidelines of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28), hosted by the UAE.
In turn, Hassan Al Ghanem affirmed "the depth of the close and solid relations between the two brotherly countries," praising the momentum and positive interaction seen in parliamentary relations between the Federal National Council and the Qatari Shura Council, whether through parliamentary visits or mutual support among members of the councils in regional and international forums on issues of common concern.
