When did the global celebration of Father’s Day begin?
The initiative to dedicate a day to celebrate Father’s Day globally is credited to American Sonora Louise Smart Dodd from Michigan, USA. She was listening to a Sunday sermon about mothers and wanted to acknowledge her father, who had raised her and her six siblings after their mother passed away. She presented a petition calling for a day dedicated to fathers, which was supported by many. Her efforts culminated in success on June 19, 1910, when Spokane celebrated the first Father’s Day, and the celebration of this day spread globally thereafter.
How is Father’s Day celebrated?
In our Arab countries, Father’s Day is celebrated by expressing words of thanks, appreciation, and gratitude toward fathers or those who stand in their place in our lives. Families gather, and children present symbolic gifts to their fathers, and children create greeting cards and drawings that express their love for their dads.
